ABOUT OUR WORK...

We design, manufacture and install traditionally styled greenhouses all over the UK, both freestanding and lean-to buildings, ranging in size from our smallest 'Deco' model up to our largest bespoke 'Victorian' glasshouses. We use the same fundamental manufacturing process, and top quality materials for all our greenhouses.

The majority of the framework (all vertical elevations) is made from Western Red Cedar, which is a naturally rot resistant timber. We use timber because we feel it produces more character than you'll find in an all-Aluminium greenhouse. Finished to a colour of your choice in a high performance three coat paint system (eliminating the maintenance headaches which arise when unpainted timber is exposed to the elements) the

The roof components are made from aluminium, polyester powder coated to match, and provide a very strong and maintenance free roof. On all our greenhouses the glazing is 4mm toughened glass 'one-piece' units throughout, and automatic temperature controlled roof vent openers are included as standard.

We use this combination of timber for the main framework and aluminium in the roof because we feel it offers the best of what both materials have to offer. With a greenhouse from White Cottage our customers enjoy the traditional feel and character which can only be achieved with a timber framework, and the enduring qualities of aluminium where it is needed for the hard to reach roof areas which receive the most from the elements.

FREESTANDING GREENHOUSES

A ‘freestanding’ greenhouse is simply any greenhouse not attached to the side of a building i.e. dwarf brick walls for all sides of the base. NB: All our greenhouses are made to fit dwarf brick base walls A freestanding greenhouse can be either a standard size from our discounted range or a bespoke design to your precise requirements.

LEAN-TO GREENHOUSES

We produce many bespoke lean-to greenhouses to suit our customers and their properties (all our lean-to greenhouses are bespoke designs). Lean-to greenhouses can be broadly categorised as either:

  • ‘mono pitch’; a single pitched roof rising from the eaves to a ridge at the back wall like this

Or

Edwardian three quarter span greenhouse
  • '3/4 span’; where the roof rises from the eaves to the ridge and then back down to the wall. This can be onto the side of the wall like this

 

  

  •  Or on top of the wall like this

  • We also produce gable-end lean-to greenhouses, where the end of the greenhouse is attached to the wall, like this

Any of these types of lean-to can be designed to fit into a corner. There is a large variety of additional features and options which can be chosen to personalise the glasshouse further.
