Planning Applications
MOST PRIVATE PROPERTIES
In the great majority of cases, planning permission is not required in order to have one of our greenhouses installed.
A greenhouse, either freestanding or a lean-to, is not classed as a ‘habitable room’; neither planning permission nor building regulations apply in most cases.
Planning permission is generally not required if:
- The greenhouse is not between the property and the highway, or is at least 20m from the highway.
- The greenhouse is not more than 4m high within 2m of the boundary, and does not exceed the height of the property.
- The greenhouse does not cause more than half the site to be covered by buildings (lean-tos only).
- The total volume of the greenhouse and any other extensions to the original property is not more than 50 cubic metres (lean-tos only).
Precise planning requirements may vary depending on your local area so if you are unsure please contact your local council for clarification.
LISTED BUILDINGS AND CONSERVATION AREAS
Our greenhouse designs meet the requirements for planning approval in the most demanding national parks, conservation areas, and for listed buildings. We have successfully completed many projects for which planning approval was required. From our smallest ‘Deco’ to our largest ‘Victorian’ lean-to, our ethos is always the same; to produce a sympathetic, authentic look which replicates genuine Victorian and Edwardian period glasshouses, and is in keeping with the kind of properties on which these glasshouses were constructed.
If you do require planning permission for the site you are considering for your greenhouse we will be pleased to support your planning application. We are able to provide detailed technical drawings of the proposed building, to scale, from any elevation. We can also provide drawings of timber profiles to be used, detailing cross sections, and how profiles will fit together at the joins, as well as any other necessary details or information required.
