Bespoke Edwardian mono-pitch lean-to greenhouse
rooted in historic glasshouse design
We call this type of greenhouse ‘mono-pitch’ because it has a single slope of glass from the eaves to the ridge. Many period glasshouses were based on this classic design and, providing there is sufficient height available, this is the simplest way of utilising a house or boundary wall for a lean-to greenhouse.
When considering a mono-pitch lean-to we look at how much height is available and how wide the span will be from the back wall. These two factors can limit the angle of the roof and how much headroom there is inside.

Lean-to greenhouses for smaller gardens
In small gardens a lean-to may be the best option; it can even be fitted into a corner if space along the wall is limited. Lead flashing is provided to make all junctions weatherproof.
Edwardian mono-pitch lean-to:
• Maximum width 2.9m
(for a wider mono-pitch see our ‘Victorian’ specification)
• Length along the wall is not limited
• Around 3m rear wall height is ideal
• Roof pitch 20–25 degrees but can be shallower if height is limited
• Walls less than 2.5m high normally need a 3/4 span design -
